| Navigation | Does someone have to steer the boat all the time? -- nick | No, we have two devices that can steer the boat for us. First there is "Auto" short for auto helm. Auto steers by a compas heading. Point him in the direction you want to go lock in "Auto" and he will do his best to keep you on that heading. Then there is a wind vein steering system. This will hold a course bassed on the direction of the wind. If the wind changes direction so will the boat. Both systems are far from fool proof and require that someone oversee them. And someone does have to be watching to make sure you don't hit anything, but it is still much better than standing behind the wheel hours on end. -- Capt'n Mike |
| Sailing | What is it like to sail at night? -- jon jones | Sometimes my eyes play tricks and it is not easy to tell how far you are from things. A light may look like it is only a 100 yards away when it is really miles and vise versa. You have to count on compass and GPS to keep on course and Radar to see what is around you if it doesn't have lights or if there is fog. -- Capt'n Mike |
